Sameer Bakhda grew up in Southern California, and attended UCLA, where he became a huge Bruins fan. He went on to receive his medical degree at the USC School of Medicine. While in medical school, he joined the United States Navy, and served on active duty for four years. He served with the Marine Corps as the flight surgeon for Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267, flying Huey and Cobra helicopters. He deployed to Iraq and Okinawa in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as other antiterrorism missions.
Sameer left active duty in 2004, and began his residency training in emergency medicine at the legendary Cook County Hospital in Chicago. After finishing residency, he moved to Monterey and began work at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. He was the medical director of the Emergency Department for 6 years, and will resume his role as the CEO of his physician group in July.
He is now the founder and CEO of a new startup – Lightspeed Testing – which brings rapid COVID testing to Monterey County. In his spare time, he loves to travel with his wife and two boys, and enjoys reading, movies, and skiing!
